Track less, trust more. This setup gets you accurate ecommerce events and reports you’ll actually use.

Decide your source of truth

Use Shopify for revenue and orders; GA4 for behavior and funnels. Reconcile weekly and investigate >5% gaps.

Essential events only

Page view, view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, add_payment_info, purchase. Pass product ID, price, quantity, and coupon.

UTM discipline

Standardize utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, and content. Use lowercase and hyphens. Never ship ads without final UTMs.

GA4 reports that matter

Build an Exploration for PDP → Cart → Checkout → Purchase with device split. Add a source/medium breakdown for drop-offs.

Debug before scale

Validate events in GA4 DebugView and Shopify’s order timeline. Test coupon and subscription edge cases.
